Dr. Richard G. Michal
Dr. Richard G. Michal — Graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Zoology. He received his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine. Desiring to serve the Lord first and foremost, Dr. Michal stepped out on faith and founded Rocky Mount Family Medical Center in 1983. The practice has grown to a ten provider practice and continues to recruit providers. Dr. Michal is married with four children and is an active member of Englewood Baptist Church where he participates in prayer ministry, Bible fellowship groups and has coached Upward sports teams. Additionally, Dr. Michal has participated in four mission trips to Russia and one to Cuba. Other interests include the Carolina Tarheels; the Carolina Hurricanes and astronomy. Dr. Michal is a member of the teaching faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine.

Dr. Mark S. Abel
Dr. Mark S. Abel — Graduated from Purdue University, Indiana with a B.S. in Biology. He received his M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Abel operated his own private practice in Winchester, Indiana from 1983 -1994, and in July 1994, joined Family Medical Center of Rocky Mount. In addition to being a co-owner of Family Medical Center of Rocky Mount, Dr. Abel is a member of the American Board of Family Practice. He serves on the Tumor Board at Nash General Hospital where he also performs colonoscopies and endoscopies. Dr. Abel was the 2004 recipient of the Family Medical Center Golden Rule Award. This award is presented to individuals who live the Golden Rule consistently and always put the needs of others before themselves. Dr. Abel is married with four children, serves as a deacon in his church, and has participated in foreign and local mission work.

Dr. Samuel J. Perry
Dr. Samuel J. Perry — Graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in Math Business. He received his M.D. from Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in 1988. Dr. Perry joined Family Medical Center of Rocky Mount in October 2002 with over 16 years experience as a practicing physician in North Carolina. Married to Beverly Perry, they are the proud parents of a new baby. The Perrys are very active in their church and community activities. Dr. Perry is a member of the American Board of Family Practice and was voted 2006 “Family Doctor of the Year” by the Rocky Mount Telegram readers.

Dr. J. Ashley Parker
Dr. J. Ashley Parker — Received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1994 and was an Honors graduate of the ECU School of Medicine in 2000. Dr. Parker completed his residency program in 2003 at Riverside Family Practice in Newport News, VA. As a member of the NC National Guard, Dr. Parker has served two tours of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dr. Ashley Parker, his wife and four children are members of Englewood Baptist Church where he enjoys singing in the choir and playing on the church softball team. Additional interests of Dr. Parker include deer and duck hunting. Dr. Parker joined Family Medical Center in July 2003 and is a member of the American Board of Family Practice.

Dr. J. Jay Hart
Dr. John "Jay" Hart — Graduated from Georgetown University Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology in 1994. Dr. Hart received a Masters of Science with a distinction in Medical Physiology in 1996 and a Doctorate of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2000 with an award for academic excellence. He completed his residency program at Lancaster General Hospital Family Practice in 2003. Additionally, Dr. Hart holds awards for excellence in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Hart joined Family Medical Center in January 2004 and is a member of the American Board of Family Practice. He is married to Dr. Jennifer Hart, and they are the proud parents of a baby girl. Dr. Hart is a member of Servant’s Heart Church where he serves as a deacon.

Dr. Jennifer M. Hart
Dr. Jennifer M. Hart — Graduated from University of Virginia and earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 2000. Dr. Hart completed her residency at Lancaster General Hospital in 2003. She joined Family Medical Center in March of 2004, and is a member of the American Board of Family Practice. Dr. Hart currently runs our Women’s Health Care program. She is married to Dr. John “Jay” Hart, and they are the proud parents of a new baby girl. As a member of Servant’s Heart Church, Dr. Hart enjoys teaching Sunday School and leading a fellowship group in her home.

Dr. Sabine Maas
 

Dr. Sabine Maas —
Received her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Nursing from Caldwell Community College in Hudson, N.C. She received her Batchelor of Science in Nursing from Gardner-Webb College in Boiling Springs, N.C . While working as an RN in several hospitals in the Infectious Disease and Cardiac Telemetry departments and the Medical/Surgical floor, she returned to school to pursue her Doctorate in Medicine. Pre-Med course work was taken at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. She transferred to East Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville, N.C., where she earned her Doctorate in Medicine. Dr. Maas performed her residency training through East Carolina School of Medicine, Dept. of Family Medicine Rural Residency at Williamston, N.C. She was also Chief Resident during her residency. After graduating in 1998, Dr. Maas worked for Chatuge Family Practice in Murphy, N.C. In 2000 she started her own solo practice, Linville Family Medicine in Linville, N.C. Dr. Maas closed her practice in 2007 and started working for CompHealth as a locum tenans. Her first assignment was with Family Medical Center of Rocky Mount in October of 2007. Patients, staff and colleagues instantly loved her. An offer for a permanent position was made. She joined Family Medical Center of Rocky Mount on May 5, 2008. She is a Board Certified Family Practice Physician and a committed Christian. Dr. Maas is married and has one son.

John M. Lucas, PA-C John M. Lucas, PA-C — Received a B.A. in Biology in 2001 from Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio and a B.S. in Physician Assistant Studies from East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina in 2004 where he was on the Dean’s List for four semesters. In addition to being a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants and the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants, Mr. Lucas is a deacon in his church and visited Eleuthera, Bahamas for missions work in 2007. He joined FMC in July 2004 and was the 2005 recipient of Family Medical Center’s Golden Rule award. This award is presented to individuals who live the Golden Rule consistently and always put the needs of others before themselves. John is married with a new baby girl.

Rachel L. Perry, PA-C
Rachel L. Perry, PA-C — Received a B.S. in Medical Technology from Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas in 1998. Ms. Perry received her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas in 2003. Ms. Perry moved to the Rocky Mount area and joined Family Medical Center in July 2006. She is a member of the American Medical Association and the Fellowship of Christian Physicians Assistants. In addition to being an active member of Arlington Baptist Church and the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), Ms. Perry has been on missions trips to Saltillo and Monterey, Mexico. She married Clay Perry in October 2007.

Julian E.I.McLeod, PA-C
 
Julian E.l. McLeod, PA-C — Received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland in 1992. Mr. McLeod received a B.S. in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1993 and his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1998. He is a member of the Society of Air Force Physician Assistants, the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, Christian Medical and Dental Association and the National Commission of Certified Physician Assistants. After serving his country in the United States Air Force from 1980 until 2006, Mr. McLeod joined Family Medical Center of Rocky Mount in September, 2006. Among other distinctions, Mr. McLeod managed the G6PD/Sickle Cell Program for Basic Trainees at Lackland AFB in California while serving in the USAF. He is married with two children.
